We are thrilled to celebrate the success of our 67th Diversity CRNA Information Session & Airway Simulation Lab Workshop hosted by Fairfield University, which marked the fifth and final in-person event for 2024. This milestone wraps up an incredible year of outreach and education, supporting historically excluded, marginalized ICU nurses who are interested in advancing their careers in nurse anesthesia. These workshops have provided invaluable opportunities for participants to engage with CRNAs, gain hands-on experience in the airway simulation lab, and learn about the application process for CRNA programs.
Looking ahead, we are excited to announce that in just a few weeks, we will be sharing dates and locations for the 2025 Diversity CRNA Information Sessions & Airway Simulation Lab Workshops across the country. These sessions are designed to support ICU nurses from diverse backgrounds by providing access and early professional socialization to the CRNA profession. Our goal is to help break down barriers and create pathways to success for nurses from historically underrepresented groups in anesthesia.
Did you know that out of a 65,000-strong CRNA workforce, only 4% are Black, 4% are Hispanic, 3% are Asian, and just 0.7% are Indigenous? This underscores the critical need for initiatives like ours to diversify the field of nurse anesthesia. As we continue to expand the Immersion Model for Diversifying Nurse Anesthesia Programs, an evidence-based, award-winning workforce initiative, we remain committed to fostering a more inclusive and representative profession.
Join us in saying, "I will be a CRNA!" and watch this space grow as we work to create lasting change in the anesthesia community.
