Steffen Lewis, DNP, CRNA, UAMS DNP Nurse Anesthesia & Southern University School of Nursing HBCU Alumni with his sons on a serious simulation lab skill check off with future CRNAs!

Watch these young Kings…introduce themselves to their mannequin patient, intubate with a glide scope & check anesthesia machine! Whew!!

As per Steffen:

I spend a lot of time away from the kids busy with Nurse Anesthesia school. I had the chance to bring them to the skills lab today to give them insight on just what Daddy is working so hard to accomplish.

They made me so proud on how fast they learned and how well they worked together, and both had successful attempts with their intubations. ~ Mr. Johnson went on to have a successful anesthetic and is recovering well from his procedure

“Daddy, this is way harder than it looks.”

On June 19th, we celebrate Happy Freedom Day!

Juneteenth is an annual holiday that celebrates the freedom of African Americans. It is also known as Emancipation Day or Jubilee Day. The holiday commemorates the day when slavery was finally abolished in the United States.

Juneteenth is celebrated on June 19th, the date when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation. This date marks the end of slavery in the United States.

The holiday is a time to remember the struggle for freedom and to celebrate the progress that has been made since then. It is also a time to reflect on the work that still needs to be done to ensure equality and justice for all.

Circa 2021…On Juneteenth, Chuncey Ward DNP Nurse Anesthesia Student Union University boarding with 2 Black pilots in the cockpit!

This is the first flight he encountered with Black pilots on a trip! Did you know Black CRNAs & Pilots make up only 3% and 3.4% in the profession, respectively?

Lord, we have a long way to go, but out here doing my part to change it up!!

He is now Dr. Chuncey Ward, DNP, CRNA!

About #Juneteenth:

A historic moment on June 19, 1865, a Union general, arrived in Galveston, Texas, to inform enslaved African-Americans of their freedom and that the Civil War had ended. General Granger’s announcement put into effect the Emancipation Proclamation signed on January 1, 1863, by President Lincoln.
