Cordero Abdullah, Nurse Anesthesia Student from Rosalind Franklin University sharing a data point on representation of marginalized CRNAs of color in the profession.
In his own words…titled, appropriately, “It’s 2024”.
Only 3% of the 55,000+ #CRNAs here in the USA are African-American.
According to the 2020 US Census, Black people make up about 12-13% of the total population.
It’s so satisfying seeing my Black patients face light up when I tell them I’ll be providing their #anesthesia for their surgery.
While I’m not officially a CRNA yet, I pray that I can continue being a positive representation of what we need more of in the culture. Striving for excellence, respectful, inquisitive, hard work, tenacity, etc.
If you’re from a diverse background and interested in nurse anesthesiology, be sure to tap in with @lenagould and the amazing Diversity CRNA network she’s built from the ground up.
Second to last semester of Nurse Anesthesia clinical almost in the books…now, ready to study for boards, hard!

Working towards my goal. I learned to not look too far ahead & just chip at it bit by bit. Days will turn into months, then into years! Alas, before you know it it’s time to graduate.
Hey y'all...look at my future office.
Tick, Tock!

Success is the Sum of Small Wins
In life and in practice, progress isn’t always about giant leaps. It’s about the “aggregation of marginal gains”—those small, incremental improvements that stack up over time to create monumental change. Whether it’s perfecting a skill, mastering a technique, or simply showing up with consistency, these marginal gains add up.
But here’s the catch: Along the journey, doubt will creep in, but doubt is NOT the same as failure. Doubt is a normal part of growth; it means you’re pushing your limits. Failure, on the other hand, only happens when you give up.
So, keep showing up. Keep stacking those small wins. Keep growing. Because success is built on the foundation of your perseverance, even on the hardest days.
