DIVERSITY CRNA NEWSLETTER

Dear Diversity CRNA Community,

As we step into February, we proudly celebrate Black History Month, honoring the resilience, brilliance, and contributions of Black leaders in healthcare and beyond. Among them is Goldie D. Brangman (October 2, 1917 – February 9, 2020), an extraordinary nurse, educator, and trailblazer in nurse anesthesia. She was a co-founder of the Harlem Hospital School of Anesthesia, where she dedicated much of her career to training future nurse anesthetists, later serving as the director of the Harlem Hospital School of Nursing. Brangman was also part of the surgical team that cared for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. after an attempted assassination on September 20, 1958. In 1973, she made history as the first African-American president of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA). Beyond her professional contributions, she was a lifelong volunteer for the Red Cross, embodying a spirit of service and leadership that continues to inspire us all. As we honor her legacy, we reaffirm our commitment to increasing diversity and representation in the CRNA profession.

The 2025 Diversity CRNA Information Session & Airway Simulation Lab Workshops are set and registration for the first two events is underway! These transformative workshop events provide an unparalleled opportunity to gain hands-on experience, connect with current CRNAs and SRNAs, and solidify your path toward nurse anesthesia. You must be registered to attend these events, no walk-ins accepted. Mark your calendars:
